Scorecard and ball-by-ball details
West Indies need 485 runs to beat England in the third and final Test in St Lucia.
Joe Root declared his team’s second innings immediately after he was dismissed for 122, having added 11 runs to his overnight score, within the first half-hour of play on day four.
Ben Stokes pressed on with his innings after resuming on 29, hitting two fours and a thumping six over deep midwicket off Kemar Roach. He remained unbeaten on 48 at the declaration.
Root found his touch after his scores of 4 and 22 in Barbados (which saw his average drop below 50 for the first time since 2014) were followed by knocks of 7, 7, and 15. He gritted his teeth through a difficult period against the second new ball late on day three and was richly rewarded, closing his eyes and punching the air after he brought up his 16th Test hundred with a four down the ground off Alzarri Joseph.
He put on a century stand with Jos Buttler, who scored back-to-back fifties for the match.
Joe Denly, playing just his fourth Test innings, put together a solid knock of 69.
